New Tappan Zee Bridge. Construction Update 6. 7/27/18

Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) is continuing dismantling the retired Tappan Zee bridge. The project’s largest crane, dubbed “I Lift NY” removing these enormous sections of structural steel, some was weighing more than 1,500 tons. Nearly 900 tons of material from the old bridge are being used in the state’s largest artificial reef expansion two miles off Long Island shore in order to form a natural habitat for sea life. Tappan Zee Constructors placed the final concrete deck panel on the Eastbound span. Traffic is scheduled to shift to the new span later this year. Nearly 110,000 people have signed an online petition urging officials in Albany to resurrect the Tappan Zee Bridge as the moniker for its modern replacement, now known as the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
