Storyteller and author Joe Bruchac of Greenfield Center, New York presents a program about Grant’s friend, Civil War staff secretary, and first Native American Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Ely Parker. Joe shares insights into Grant’s relationship with Native Americans during his time in public office and over the course of their friendship.
Joe’s poems, articles and stories have appeared in over 500 publications and he is the author of more than 170 books for adults and children. Much of his writing is drawn from his connection to the Adirondack mountain foothills town where he grew up and his Abenaki ancestry.
