The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP; Filipino: Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas; Spanish: Fuerzas Armadas de Filipinas) are the military forces of the Philippines. It consists of the three main service branches; the Army, the Navy (including the Marine Corps) and the Air Force. The President of the Philippines is the Commander-in-Chief of the AFP and forms military policy with the Department of National Defense, an executive department acting as the principal organ by which military policy is carried out, while the Chief of Staff is the overall commander and the highest-ranking officer in the AFP. The Philippine Coast Guard also serves as an attached service of the AFP in wartime. Military service is entirely voluntary.
The Republic of Korea Armed Forces (Korean: 대한민국 국군), also known as the ROK Armed Forces, are the armed forces of South Korea.The Republic of Korea Armed Forces were founded in 1948, following the establishment of the South Korean government after Korea’s liberation from the Empire of Japan. South Korea’s military forces are responsible for maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state, and also engage in peacekeeping operations and humanitarian, disaster-relief efforts worldwide.
