Michael Jackson has been honoured by Black Entertainment Television in America as the most significant performer in the music video industry.
The celebrated singer performed his current hit “You are not Alone”, as part of a televised celebration in Washington for the cable network’s 15th anniversary.
Black Entertainment Television, which features many music video shows as well as current affair programmes, hosted a variety of celebrities for its anniversary party.
From big political names like Democrats Ron Brown and Jesse Jackson, to entertainers like Tim Reid – dozens of famous black Americans came out for Friday’s bash.
And, of course, there was tight security around Michael Jackson as he arrived.
A series of comediennes and singers preceded Jackson’s performance.
Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle sang “A Whole New World”, from the movie “Aladdin”.
Jackson, with his now trademark dramatic, smoky entrance, treated the audience to his latest top ten hit, “You are Not Alone”.
He was accompanied by the Union Temple Baptist Choir of Washington.
The party continued until the small hours, with selected guests joining celebrities for a buffet and dancing afterwards.
The presentation of the award, and star on the network’s Walk of Fame, concluded the festivities.
“I really don’t know what to say. I think you’re all wonderful people and I love you so much and thank you for everything. I love you more.”
