In February 2019, the Republic of Macedonia, a country of about 2 million people, changed its name to Republic of North Macedonia. Under Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, its objective is to gain membership of NATO as well as of the European Union, two aspirations which had previously been made difficult by Greece, which has a province called Macedonia.
